MOUNTING YOUR LaserAlign
Included with your system are three stainless steel mounting blocks approximately 7/8" wide. These are to be mounted on your existing guides as positioning pins for the LaserAlign. To position these blocks, use the included acrylic positioning guide:
|
Since precision and perfect positioning of your LaserAlign is our goal, the positioning template has very tight tolerances and the positioning blocks JUST fit inside the openings. To make removing the template easier, and to prevent inadvertent gluing of the template to the blocks or guides, we suggest that you first take a Q-Tip or small brush and apply a light mineral oil to the inside of the acrylic guides positioning holes and on the base around the holes. Any oil or light lubricant will work, including WD-40 and even cooking oil!
Clean your existing guides, then slide the acrylic piece up against the back factory guide as far as possible. Slide to left until the edge butts up against the left side factory guide. For attaching the blocks, you may use a double sided adhesive tape, a foam tape, glue or epoxy. We recommend a strong glue or epoxy (included) - keep in mind that once the blocks are mounted, your LaserAlign can still be removed or replaced in seconds. For the back guide, you will be using slots #1 & #2.
After the glue has set for a few minutes and the blocks are stable, carefully lift the acrylic guide straight up - be careful not to move the blocks! Now, turn the acrylic guide and position against the left side guide. Repeat the above procedure and this time use slot #3. When the blocks are secure, your LaserAlign should fit snugly on top of them and be positioned square on the factory guides.
USING YOUR LaserAlign
First, attach the white sliding guide rule to the main unit if it is not already attached. It slides on from the right side. If you want to loosen or tighten the sliding action, there is a set screw accessible from the front of the slide. Attach the indicator arm to the slide - it simply attaches with a magnetic catch.
Now the fun part! Youll notice that its much easier to position your work squarely in the upper left corner of your engraving table. For measuring the width of any item, simply slide the indicator arm to the left until it butts up against your workpiece and look at the ruler indication on the back scale. The TOP of the scale shows you the exact width and the bottom shows you the center point! Though there is no indicator arm on the side, you can easily view the depth of your workpiece on the side scale. If you want, you can quickly remove the indicator arm from the back slide and manually use it on the side scale by butting it up to the bottom of your workpiece. The arm is attached by magnet.
CARING FOR YOUR LaserAlign
The only care your LaserAlign will need is regular cleaning. How often depends on what you engrave. If you do a lot of wood, it will need cleaning much more often than if you only engrave anodized aluminum plates. Your LaserAlign is durable and you can use virtually any cleaner. You can not wipe off the ruler marks. We suggest denatured alcohol. A toothbrush works well for cleaning in the groove where the white sliding guide rides. No lubrication is necessary.
HELPFUL HINTS
The white sliding guide and indicator arm has an additional function. The arm is easily removable with a magnetic catch. If you are engraving or cutting a thin material, such as paper, vinyl or foil - that tends to curl - you may be able to hold it down with the arm. This will hold one side, and you can tape the other. If you do a lot of this, you can order an additional sliding guide and magnetic arm for $45.
