POSITIONING YOUR LaserAlign II
Simply place your LaserAlign2 in the upper left corner of your engraving table - butting it up against your existing guide rulers. Please read the section ALIGNING YOUR EXISTING GUIDES, before proceeding.
USING YOUR LaserAlign II
With the Left and Right guides fully open, place the object you want to engrave anywhere near the center of the LaserAlign table. Slide either the Left or the Right guide toward the center - both guides will move simultaneously and sandwich your object in the exact (Horizontal) center of the table. To position vertically (Top to Bottom), simply move the white plastic sliders toward your workpiece. When they've made contact, slide the workpiece and BOTH sliders up or down until the rulers by each read the same. This will center the object vertically. If you want your engraving to be Higher or Lower than center, just move accordingly.
SETTING UP YOUR SOFTWARE
The beauty of the LaserAlign II is that you can set up one basic software template, a single time, and use it for nearly everything you engrave - when you want your text and graphics centered. The center point of every object will remain the same, no matter what it's size - provided it is between 2" and 12" wide. If you are using CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Engrave Lab or similar software, the exact (Horizontal) center of your work piece will be 7 inches in from the the left edge. IF you centered your workpiece Vertically as well, the Vertical center is 6 inches down from the top. That's it - every object, every time!
USING THE TABLE TILT FEATURE
LaserAlign II units shipped after September 2005 have a very useful new feature. ..a tilting table top that allows for the easy engraving ofawardsthat have an obelisk or pinnacle type shape. When positioned on a &Mac223;at table, this type of award must be tilted up in the back in order to provide a level engraving surface. The LaserAlign II now allows you to do this easily, while still main- taining the self-centering features of the device. Attached to the inside rear legs are leg adjusters that swing out to raise the back of the unit. There are four different sizes provided and each has an adjustment range of approximately 1/4 inch or 6mm. A thumb screw is provided to loosen and adjust each leg or to remove and replace each. Please note that two slanted lines are scribed on each. As the legs are extended, they should be turned to keep one of these lines parallel to the bottom of the rigid foot on the LaserAlign II table. This will keep the extended foot &Mac223;at as the table is tilted. If you wish to cut your own acrylic extension feet at a different size than those provided, call or eMail us and we can send you an editable &Mac222;le In CorelDRAW or Adobe
Illustrator to make it easy. |
ENGRAVING VERY SMALL OBJECTS - LESS THAN 2" OR 55mm
Occasionally, we need to engrave small items - less than 2" in width. Since the LaserAlign will normally only center items 2" or wider, we have to trick it. We cut some shims out of 1/4" and 1/8" thick acrylic to &Mac222;t inside the Horizontal sliders. Just make sure to use the same thickness on EACH side. If we use a 1/4" thick piece on each side, we can now center an object that is only 1 1/2" wide. Use whatever is necessary. We use acrylic, but any scrap material of uniform thickness will work. Many situations are unique and you need to improvise. We recently needed to engrave a logo and What we did, was some special shapes onto each side of 100 dice. That's 600 engravings that must be precisely positioned on dice that measure about 8mm wide! What we did, was cut a 3" square out of quarter inch thick acrylic. Into that, we cut four 8mm squares, into which we could place four dice. The 3" square was large enough to center in the LaserAlign 2 and the die sides were precisely positioned every time for engraving. This minimized our set-up as much as possible while still allowing us to send out a high quality product.
CARING FOR YOUR LaserAlign II
With reasonable care, your LaserAlign II should last a lifetime. It is very durable and engineered with precision. Just keep it clean, do not imerse it in water, but it's OK to wipe it down with a damp cloth or non-abrasive cleaner. Try to avoid scratching it, but scratches will not affect it's performance. It will probably never need lubrication, but if it seems like it does, use a light weight oil or white lithium grease on the gear assembly underneath.
